Tesla Model 3 announced: release set for 2017, price starts at $25,000
And here it is, after 10 years of waiting Tesla’s Model 3 is finally coming to life. The CEO Elon Musk expressed his hope that finally a Tesla vehicle will be affordable enough to reach the masses, and not only the lucky few.

During the debut of the Model, which took place at the company's design studio in Hawthorne, California, Tesla CEO Elon Musk claimed that the car would have 215 miles (a number that Tesla hopes to surpass in the final car) of range at a starting price of $25,000. That bold claim raised our curiosity and we are looking forward to find out whether Tesla will manage to live up to it. The first distributions will supposedly begin by the end of next year, and as Musk confidently remarked this will be one of the safest cars in the world and that ‘you won’t be able to buy a better car for $25,000, even with no options’.

There are already 130,000 preorders

of the Model 3 which makes 0-60 mph in less than 6 seconds and the number is expected to multiply in no time. Of course, Tesla has thought about the performance fans and some of the Model 3 versions will be even faster. All the variations of the car will support Tesla's high-speed Supercharging network, as according to Musk ‘it's about going where you want to go’.

Similarly to its predecessor Model S, the Model 3 will be available with both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive transmission and also have front and rear trunks for storage. This actually gives the car ‘more cargo capacity than any gasoline car of the same external dimensions,’ says Musk, big enough to enable you to transport a7-foot long surfboard. Also, the will provide enough space for five adults to go for a comfortable ride. However, instead of the 17-inch portrait touchscreen of Model S and X, the Model 3 will receive a 15-inch landscape touchscreen. All safety features will run automatically, while the autopilot hardware is standard for all versions.

Tesla had to introduce an affordable vehicle

if it was to ever become meant also for the masses. The Model S and Model X even with tax incentives are extremely expensive and the price can easily jump to $100,000. The Model 3 promises a brighter future for Tesla, whose biggest competitor is Chevy Bolt, expected to come at a price of around $30,000 and with an electric range greater than 200 miles. But our focus today falls on the Model 3 - the peak of Tesla Motors greatest plan.

Ten years ago Elon Musk summed it up in a blog post:

1. Build sports car - The Tesla Roadster
2. Invest that money to build an affordable car - The Model S
3. Invest that money to build an even more affordable car - The Model 3

Near the end of the announcement evening, Elon Musk expressed his gratitude to the Model S and Model X purchasers, whose investment funded the development of the Model 3. The CEO foresees high revenue number, which the car will hopefully manage to meet. And it should better do, because the future of the company depends on the success of the Model 3.
